What position should I ask for at my current company?

Hi All,

Your help would really be appreciated in this . . .

I was hired on and currently work for an internet company as a web producer (updating our site through CMS and updating many small micro-sites). I’ve also owned my own small web business for the last 4 years and have been continually growing it on the side. I’ve been doing A-Z on those projects which include sales, design, development, QA, marketing, SEO and delivery.

Though I was originally brought in as a web producer in this company, I have done much more then was expected of me and that I was compensated for. Our company has been going through dramatically down sizing over the past 3 months and we’re now starting to build it back up as the demand for the services are getting higher.

Some of the work that I have done since joining include tons of designing (bottom to top) and developing, massive search engine optimization for 5 micro-sites and consulting for many other and as always general updating of the CMS site.

I recently spoke with the VP of marketing and told him that I wanted to change my role to an SEO Specialist. He turned around and said that he thinks I can be more than that. He wants me to take ownership over a couple of the projects that we have (million dollars ones). He stated that by simply being the SEO Specialist, I will always end up doing similar work that I have been doing up to date and would probably be under estimating myself.

My question: What would be the ideal role for me (the title) that I should ask for? We already have a creative director so that position is not available. What other positions would you guys recommend? He wants me to give him an answer and tell what I want my new title to be. I did a little research but then I thought I would try Yahoo Answers to get other answers as well.

Cheers!

How about "Senior Project Manager" – leaves room underneath you for other project managers as the business grows….

Is this a reasonable Marketing salary?

I work as a Marketing Executive for an in-house Sales & Marketing department. Although a small company in terms of staff, it delivers services nationally to some major clients. My role involves marketing and graphic/web design. These are my main duties:

• Management of all Marketing & PR activities
• Design of company website, marketing literature, email marketing, display advertising and any other promotional materials, including client presentations
• Lead management – involves advanced Excel functions
• Database management
• SEO/PPC
• Internal communication
• Management of business partner relationships (2 major mobile network providers)
• An element of performance management

Although I don’t hold a marketing qualification, I have now been in the job for 2 years and get positive feedback from my employer. I earn £14.5k basic + bonus. Despite promises otherwise, the bonus scheme is barely worthwhile – weighing in at £200 quarterly (before tax).

Comments appreciated!

I take it your in Europe, in the U.S. marketing and advertising jobs don’t pay very well unless you wind up high up in the comanies. I am a communications major with a minor in marketing and really enjoy advertising and marketing but am a bit hesitant to get into it as everything I’ve come across only pays about $30,000 at most. I could make more than that managing a fast food restaurant. I didn’t go to college to make $30,000 or less you know.

Crazy Google Positioning Results?

I have been getting crazy search positioning results for my website. One minute I’m listed on page 1 of the search result and have been as high as the #1 position and the next minute I am as far back as on the bottom of page 5. I am still relatively new to SEO, but I have not had this problem with any of the other keywords that I have gone after in the past. At the time of writing this I am currently found in the middle of page 4.

All I want to know is why is there such a big swing in Google’s search results. They just seem to be all over the place with no rhyme or reason.

Website is: bettermybusiness.com
Keyword search phrase: small business consulting

There is an update by Google that is going on; hence the SERPs are bouncing up and down with some sites appearing and some sites disappearing

The folks at Webmasterworld, which has always been given the "honor" to give a name to Google Updates, is calling this Update Dewey.

Read Webmasterworld.com and other SEO forums as there have been interesting discussions of the current update
