How do I get started with a small low cost internet business?

I worked on a website for a little while last year and got some great insights into SEO, search engine optimisation. I know a few tricks now and would love to learn more about this business. Please give me some tips on how to get started with a web business (a small one) I have a buddy who has his own dating site; clickinlove. I want to start making money with my own domain that I have registered. I have been sitting in front of a PC for nearly 10 years, always the bosses PC!! I should have started learning more 10 years ago and continually blogging or learning instead of bumming around on stupid sites like rotten.com anyway I think it’s time to start seriously doing a bit more research in this area and slowly build up my skills so that in another 10 years I can be earning money from my own business or my own efforts!

I like Genealogy101 above am a SBI’er and enjoy the host SiteSell They have some great examples and resources for online business ideas at http://find.sitesell.com/UnstoppableDreams.html

I would be happy to share my experiences with building online business and how to at a low cost. You can also see an example through my profile page here at Yahoo Answers.

BEST WISHES!

Making money online is very vast topic. I see people making money thru domaining, blogs, affiliate marketing, content writing, programming websites, auctions, offering professional services, digital pictures, creating online applications/platforms. This list goes on…

Evaluate all of the above mentioned as well as anything else you came across. Look at pros and cons of each and shortlist 1 or 2. Then see who else is making money in the same way and make sure you have enough funds and time to do that. Just follow their footsteps and do good work, money will come.

Starting any business requires that you have something people want to buy. This sounds trite but unfortunately many think that they can find people to buy what they already know.

The real solution is to FIRST find an audience and then offer them something they need. The other important point is to look for things where your abilities and offer are scarce. The old adage goes "If it’s easy, everyone will do it" and that is always true. You must *seek out* difficult and needed items.

I hate to say this but dating sites are not going to do it. There are too many players who have too much advantage. You won’t be able to catch up or even stand out – SEO or not.

SEO and social media marketing are just tactics at your disposal. The most important thing is to seek out and find an audience first, find an overlap between your skills/offers and this audience, and offer it in a special, memorable way.

    1. First of all setting up your online business is basically setting up a website. However having a website is the easy part – its getting people to your website, and not just any old people, but people who want to buy your products. This is the harder part. You’ll know this from your SEO experiences.

However, you should consider "Site Build It" which is now acknowledged as the key way to do just that. They offer not only the web hosting but also the design, optimizing of your site and full promotion support to get it on the top searches in Google and the other sites. Its a full service for $299 a year. That might sound steep to someone starting up but it is worth every cent which you’ll recoup in spades once your site starts making you serious money. A high number of Site Build It websites get listed in the very top positions in Google etc.

Here’s where you can get free details:

    2. You need stock. Again, a place on the web that is proving very successful and profitable is Salehoo. Its a complete directory and community of reputable dropship and wholesale companies. A one off payment gets you full access ( dropship is where you make the sale and the item ships direct from the factory/wholesaler – you hold no stock)

    Here’s the link

I hope these are helpful suggestions. Combine the two suggestions above and, hey – you’re in business! Good luck!
